    • YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be held at 11 a.m. with calling hours at 10:30 a.m. Friday Oct. 11, at Rodef Sholom Cemetery Chapel (in Tod Cemetery), 2200 Belmont Ave., for Louis B. Cohen, 90, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, at Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He had been residing at Levy Gardens, where he received impeccable care.

Mr. Cohen was born on Feb. 23, 1923, in Bielsk Poland, the son of Julius (Yudel) and Elsie (Elke) Cohen, who relocated to the USA/Ohio in 1929 aboard The Majestic Ship.

Lou graduated from East High School in January of 1942 and studied at Youngstown State University and at Syracuse University.

Until the age of 89, he maintained his business, worked part time at Belmont Veterinary Clinic and walked at the mall with friends. He was President/CEO of Druco Products Company and a proud member of Rodef Sholom Temple. He also had worked for Tetley Tea Company.

In March of 1943 he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he assisted the commanding officers with his knowledge of the Yiddish language as they navigated through Germany.

Besides his parents, Lou was preceded in death by his siblings, Goldie, Gus, Ann, Morris and Sarah, twins that died at birth in Europe; and his son-in-law, Keith Carlson Jr.

His wife, Carla Drucker Cohen, preceded him in death June 10, 2010. They were married on Dec. 25, 1956, and were married for 53 years.

They were blessed with five daughters, Cory Skook (Tom), Jaimy Lynn Cohen (Eliot), Tracy Carlson, Jody Gordon (Marc), and Marcy Cohen (Tom); his grandchildren, Heidi (Mike), Keith (Lauren), Craig (Sam), Tommy (Lindsay), Zachary (Erika), Rylan and Garric; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ethan, and Austin (Punjam); and his furry grandchildren.

Lou was known for his infectious laugh and his ability to tell jokes and keep people smiling. His love of classical music helped him to identify the specifics of a piece, within the first few notes.

Lou was the VP of Youngstown Youth Symphony Orchestra in support of his daughters/members. He attended all his daughters' events. He had the most wonderful head of hair, a youthful way of being, and ate with a fork in one hand and a piece of crunchy bread in the other.
