- Jay Andrew Rosen, 25, a Potomac resident and Washington native who was a 1989 graduate of Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, died Dec. 28 at Georgetown University Hospital.
Mr. Rosen was stricken with leukemia at age 12 and had a bone marrow transplant in 1992. He died as a result of complications from the ailment.
In spite of his illness, he was active in high school and college. At Churchill, he was a member of its national championship "It's Academic" team in his senior year. He also was a member of a school musical group, the Showstoppers, which not only entertained locally but toured Russia in 1988.
After Churchill, Mr. Rosen entered Northwestern University, where he received a degree in American studies in 1993. He served as student government vice president and received a Saturn Award from the auto company of that name for his efforts in organizing fund-raising events for the bone marrow registry.
After college, he spent several months in London, where he worked for Transworld Sports as a producer for an international sports review program. His summer jobs while in school included a tour as a newsroom intern at WMAL radio in Washington.
Survivors include his mother, Amy R. Musher of Potomac; his father, Sanford I. Rosen of Bethesda; a brother, Jeffrey, of New York; a stepbrother, Mitchell Globman of Bethesda; three stepsisters, Deanie Globman of South Korea, Nicole Musher of Rockville and Lisa Musher of Potomac; and his grandmothers, Ruthjoy Wolf of Rockville and Selma Rosen of Boynton Beach, Fla.
