He was born on the first of September 1955 in Yonkers, New York. He spent his childhood growing up in North Miami, Florida with his parents, Rita and Leonard, and two brothers, Edmond and Gerald. Here he began another beloved hobby of his, running, resulting in numerous marathon accomplishments. After graduating in 1973, he continued his schooling at the University of Miami.
After college, Andrew moved to New York to begin his career as a fabric salesman, following in his father’s footsteps. He became an independent contractor and spent many wonderful years developing long lasting professional relationships as well as deep friendships with many.
After a few years back in New York, he ran into his old Irvington neighbor, Helena Melagrano, on the train from Manhattan to Irvington. After the birth of their two boys, Zac and Max, they moved to Johns Creek, Georgia where they settled down for another 26 years, raising them along with their third child, Hannah. Once all children were off to college and beyond, Andrew and Helena moved down to their dream home, Delray Beach, Florida. Andrew continued to work here and lived out the rest of his days in undeniable happiness.
If you were to ask Andrew of his most prideful accomplishment, his response would immediately be his family. Andrew Markel leaves behind a long list of family and friends, who will undoubtedly carry on his uplifting spirit for many years to come.
