  	Newman (Nochum) Markell was born in 1858 in Raseiniai, Lithuania, the son of Yankel Merkel and Irla Bloch. He came to Baltimore in the 1880s. He was a traveling eye-glass salesman. In 1940, he died in Atlanta (where he was residing with his daughter, Sarah Seligman) and his body was sent back to Baltimore for burial (presumably in this cemetery) but no grave marker was ever erected. His wife, Clara Feinberg Markell, predeceased him in 1927. Newman's twin brother John (Kasriel) and John's wife Anna Leah Markel (note different spelling of last name) are buried in the same plot with Clara (and presumably Newman, with unmarked grave). In photo, note "empty" spot to the left of Clara's grave, behind the grave of John Markel, which is likely where Newman is buried. Newman and John's half-sister, Chaje Zippe Markel Eliason is also buried in this cemetery.
