- Lee A. Markel, who was in sales and managed a store for S & N Katz Jewelers, died Saturday of cancer at his Abingdon home. He was 71.
He joined the Baltimore jewelry company in 1966, worked in sales in the Light Street and Charles Street stores, and managed the Howard Street store. He retired last year from the Hunt Valley Mall store.
He previously worked for U.S. Jewelers and Howard C. Heiss Jewelers, both in Baltimore.
The Shadyside native was raised in West Baltimore and graduated from Polytechnic Institute. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. today at Schimunek Funeral Home, 610 W. MacPhail Road in Bel Air.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Beverly M. Arnold; two sons, Bryan Lee Markel of Perry Hall and Keith Albert Markel of Westminster; a daughter, Vicki M. Ferguson of White Marsh; a sister, Mary Linda Gooding of Harford County; and seven grandchildren.
