- Herbert J. Cohen, 67, Labor Dept. administrator
Herbert J. Cohen, deputy administrator for the U.S. Department of Labor's wage and hour division in Washington for 30 years, died Wednesday of brain cancer at his home in Nokomis, Fla. He was 67.
Mr. Cohen, a former longtime Columbia resident, retired in 1987 and moved to Nokomis.
Born and raised in Forest Park, he graduated from City College and earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore.
He served as a Coast Guard flight engineer during the Korean War in the South Pacific.
He enjoyed boating and fishing.
A memorial service will be held today in Nokomis.
Mr. Cohen is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Eileen Kravetz; a son, Stephen Cohen of Columbia; a daughter, Stephanie Davis of Gainesville, Fla.; and a sister, Vivian Berman of Baltimore.
