Irvin Barry Levinson, vice president of Sol Levinson & Bros. Inc., funeral directors, died of a heart attack yesterday at home in Pikesville. He was 49.
Mr. Levinson was a fourth-generation member of the family-owned funeral establishment that was founded in Baltimore in 1892 and moved to Pikesville about two years ago. He had worked at Levinson's since 1973.
Born in Baltimore and raised in Pikesville and Miami, Mr. Levinson graduated from Pikesville High School in 1966 and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina in 1970. Mr. Levinson also graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy.
His professional memberships included the Jewish Funeral Directors of America, National Funeral Directors of America and the Maryland State Funeral Directors.
He was board member of Northwest Hospital Center and the Wellwood Baseball Leagues, which he also served as commissioner, and a member of Woodholme Country Club.
He was a member of Temple Oheb Shalom and its Brotherhood and Beth Israel Congregation and ZOA.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Sol Levinson & Bros. Inc., 8900 Reisterstown Road.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, the former Susan Bernstein; two sons, Adam Sol Levinson and Brett Alexander Levinson, both of Pikesville; his mother, Phyllis Hecht of Denver; two sisters, Bonnie L. Sussman of Tucson, Ariz. and Alyson H. Oatis of Denver; his stepmother, Lottie Levinson Carnell of Naples, Fla.; and two stepsisters, Linda Smith of Seattle and Terry Moehler of Naples.
