COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Harold Markel, 87, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Palmetto Health Hospice.
Mr. Markel, husband of the late Esther Rosenthal Markel, died Saturday, April 8, 2000. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late George and Rachael Kaplan Markel. He retired as manager for Friedman Jewelers and attended Tree of Life Synagogue.
Surviving are daughter, Roberta Markel of Columbia; son-in-law, Martin S. Starr of Plymouth, Mass.; sisters, Evelyn Mark and Ruth Goodrich, both of Baltimore; and grandsons, Bryan and Aaron Starr. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Starr.
