- Phyllis Richman Himelfarb, affectionately known to many as "Bright Eyes," passed away on March 25, 2025, in Washington, DC, at the age of 84. Born to Louis and Gertrude Richman, Phyllis lived a life of heart, dedication, community, and an unmistakable spark.
Phyllis kicked off her career as a dental hygienist after earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University. But she was a woman of many talents, and her path soon shifted to Marketing for Open University and Professional Associations, where her innovative ideas and strategic thinking left a lasting impact.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Phyllis was a cornerstone of her community and family. She passionately organized many Pollin Family Reunions, making sure each gathering was filled with joy, connection, and cherished memories. She also took great pleasure in creating fun activities at the Clara Barton Neighborhood Recreational Center, always bringing people together with her thoughtful initiatives.
A true believer in giving back, Phyllis dedicated her time to volunteering with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), where she made a profound difference in the lives of vulnerable children.
When she wasn't dedicating her time to others, Phyllis was known for her incredibly sharp wit and impressive breadth of knowledge, frequently dominating games of Jeopardy! A testament to her lifelong love of learning.
Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a fantastic brownie recipe that will continue to bring joy and comfort to future generations. Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved son, Steven Himelfarb, and former husband, Marvin Himelfarb. She is survived by her daughters, Randi Himelfarb and Carrie (Adam) Seifer, who will carry on her spirit of strength and kindness. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Milo and Casey Seifer; her daughter-in-law, Becky Himelfarb; and her brother, Alvin Richman. May her memory be a blessing. Services private.
